French and Indian War skirmish action using Muskets & Tomahawks (2nd Ed.)!!!!
A courier brought back to Albany a tale of a massive skirmish between our regulars and militia, along with native allies, and some vile French invaders. Several weeks ago, a local village up the Hudson had a bountiful harvest, and offered some of it to Albany. A local force was sent to escort the corn back - along the way, some Huron were captured who revealed a French force from Canada was also heading south for forage and a raid on the village.
Regulars, local Rangers, and some Oneida allies composed the British force approaching the village. They faced off against French regulars, some Coureur des Bois, and Huron natives. While much of the village had fled to the woods at the approach of the combat, a group of dedicated patriots remained to defend their farms and homes.
Each side slowly approached the other, emerging from forests, corn fields, or behind cabins to try and gain a foothold over the village. The fight see-sawed back and forth, each side appearing to gain an upper hand only to have to recoil from focused volley fire. The opposing natives, in particular, on the flank engaged in some frightening hand-to-hand combat!
In the end, neither side conclusively held the village, resulting in a minor victory for the British, who were able to get their corn and begin the journey back to Albany.
A great game run by Steve Phallen, now that we started to get a grasp of the rules and mechanics, we hope to knock out a few more games in the upcoming months!
